Yeah, I know, Christmas is already over, and actually, it’s even the year 2015 that will be over tonight !
But after all, the more the Christmas magic lasts, the better, right ?!
So, I felt like sharing with you a little playlist with my top 10 favorite Christmas songs to add to your party playlist for tonight and extend the regressive merry mood !
Dee Doo by Cocoon – I am a big fan of regressive melodies and touching lyrics of french band Cocoon, and this song was instantly one of my favorite on their last album. It always makes me smile like a child when I hear it on cold winter nights when steam comes out of your mouth at every breath you take, it completely reflects that feeling to me.
Let It Snow by Dean Martin – The best Christmas carol and the best crooner all together in one song. Dean Martin and his deep voice and unique laughing cheerful tone has always had the most effect on me, and Let It Snow always makes me want to snuggle in a plaid near the fireplace, so it’s perfect for that time of the year.
All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey – Yeah well, I know, you know, we all know this song, we always over hear it every year but honestly… Isn’t it just THE ultimate Christmas song ?! It just puts you in such good mood, and you have to admit the video clip is soooo old school ! It’s a must have in every Christmas playlist, so you won’t get out of it !
Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson – To me, it’s one of the most beautiful Christmas music that exists. Everything is here, just where it should be, and it really makes you want to go sleigh ride in the snow ! That’s the real magic of music composition, you don’t need lyrics to feel exactly what you should feel. And then they added lyrics, and it’s almost as good as the original ! I love The Ronettes version, so 60s, and I really wanted to share it with you too 😉
Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree by She & Him – I don’t know if you’re familiar with She & Him but I’m sure you are with Zooey Deschanel ! Well, she’s the She of the band she forms with M. Ward (he’s the Him) and they even made a Christmas song album a few years back ! Doublebass, ukulele, vintage spirit, it’s a great album that you should fully add to your playlist, but this song is by far my favorite one !
Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer – I’ve always love the character of Rudolph, Santa’s Red Nosed Reindeer (have you seen my cookies ?!). And, from as far as I can remember, every single year around Christmas it’s the same thing : I have this song stuck in my head day and night and it drives my family crazy. Why this song ?! No idea why ! It’s just MY very own Christmas song and I guess Christmas without Rudolph is no Christmas !
White Christmas by Otis Redding – If you only knew how much I love Otis Redding and his captivating voice… This song just puts me into some kind of weird nostalgic feels, it makes me want to wrap myself inside a blanket by the fireplace and watch the snow fall outside the window inside the arms of my lovey (because Otis Redding always adds that touch of love feeling in you). It’s probably the most beautiful song of this playlist…
Last Christmas by Wham – Kind of like Mariah Carey, this song drives us completely crazy every single year for decades now, but it just feels SOOO good ! And how could you say no to some George Michal anyway ?! By the way, did you know that a few days ago, an Austrian DJ locked himself inside his radio to broadcast this song on a loop ?! He played it 24 times in a row before his daughter called him to make him stop. This is the best modern Christmas tale of the year !
All That I Want by The Weepies – I don’t know if you know about the Weepies, it’s probably the least famous band of this little playlist but I do recommand it vividly ! This song is by far one of my top 3 song of this playlist, it’s so soft and calming… I love it so much I listen to it all year round and everytime I find all I love about the Christmas spirit, even in the middle of summer !
Little Saint Nick by The Beach Boys – Here in France, we’ve had a tropical Christmas (we could litterally go out wearing sweaters outside while we usually are wearing parkas and moon boots) and without an ounce of snow, so a bit of Beach Boys won’t hurt… It’s festive, you can all sing along with high pitched voices, there are bells in the back, what more could you ask ?!
What are your favorite Christmas songs ?! Feel free to share, I can’t wait to discover new songs for next Christmas !
In the mean time, I wish you the very best New Year’s Eve you can have and I’m counting on you to be here next week to start the year 2016 the best possible way !!!
