If you were reading me around April, you probably saw my articles about our little Strasbourg trip we took on an impulse to go get my birthday gift : a vintage mini bike from the 70s completely renovated, that was supposed to be delivered to us in Paris but finally could not so we had to go get it ourselves. This is the how and the why.
What’s funny about this story is that, even though I am a fully grown 22 years old, I don’t know how to ride a bike. I was born in Paris, and being a good city girl from the 00s, I just never learned to ride, except with the small wheels of course !!!! My honey decided to rectify this major problem in an adult’s life (“Hey, let’s take a bike ride between friends this afternoon !” “Well, I’m sorry I can’t, I don’t know how to ride ! Except if you’ve got small wheels ..!!” we agree this is not great as far as credibility goes !) by offering me this orange beauty that perfectly fits my tiny size.
It had become the year 2015’s newest mission : finally learning to ride a bike ! I must admit I wasn’t hard to convince, I could already picture myself riding this gorgeous bike along the Seine and making everyone jealous !!!!
As soon as the weather got a bit better at the beginning of May, we raced to a small secure street, and I finally straddled my big girl’s bike ! I was pretty sure if I could held my ass on a gallopping horse, I’d be able to stay on a bike ! Advantage was : I love speed, I’m never afraid to fall and I gain confidence real quickly in those kind of situations ! Disadvantage was : I really did not want to ruin my favorite white pants I wisely decided to wear that day. And Joey felt like my floating long cardi was very amusing and wouldn’t stop running after me, pulling on it every time I passed by him ! Besides those sticks I threw in my own’s spokes, I admit that, I did not let go, and I even managed to NOT stain my pants, which is a major achievement to me !
In the end, I can decently say I’m not that bad, even though I’m not completely comfortable (especially on turns !!!), but I’m such a clumsy girl so it’s pretty remarkable !
I must admit though, my bike’s size makes it easy for me, my feet get on the floor pretty quickly if I loose my balance !!!
Here is a little bonus where you can see my natural grace and ease after an hour of practicing on my Instagram account 🙂
Cardigan : Mango
Top : Monki
Pants : Zara
Loafers : Gap

Maybe we’ll cross paths this summer in Paris on my mini orange bike, who knows ?! I’m planning on training Joey to run along, but regarding his reaction, I’m not sure that will do ! I’ll guess he’ll end up in the front basket !!!
What about you, when did you first learn to ride a bike ?!
